This is an anime that started as a manga (comic) and blossomed into two short series, a dating sim, a rather large number of music CDs and several PC desktop/screensaver/game platforms. |

Basically It's a story
about a combat-android named Mahoro, who has come close to the end
of her operational life-span. She has been fighting in a secret war
between the combined forces of "Vesper" ("Evening prayer" in Latin)
and the Alien forces of "Saint" (I think most of you know the
definition of a "saint") for the past 9 years. If she chooses to
maintain her armor and weapon systems she will only live for 37
days. {Apparently the energy she receives from food and other nutrients isn't enough to power her systems alone.} WELL . . . offering us a little glimpse into her "humanity" she decides to stand-down and live like a normal person . . . as normal as "she" can be. She chooses to become a live in maid, as just sitting around would prove too boring for her. {She does have other reasons for this that become apparent as the series progresses.} After that . . . the fun begins. "Do Androids dream of electric sheep?" I don't think Mahoro does . . . In fact, I can safely say she definitely does NOT! Despite the amount of fanservice (nudity) there is a rather compelling story about guilt, compassion, love and devotion as well as an exploration of the warrior's soul and the different paths that can be taken . . . and that sometimes those paths are not so dissimilar. I think if you wanted to, a person could dig pretty deep into the philosophical ideas that are presented . . . or you could just sit back and enjoy a really wonderful anime. Over at ANN they rate this a solid 7.5 for both series and a 7.1 for the Summer Special. Personally, these get a solid 9.5 from me. |
