Personally, this is
a little too "soap-opera" for me.
The character designs are nice and the rest of the artwork and animation is
actually pretty good.
The transition of the cast being in High
School to three years after is really good and tends to keep you
involved.
It started out really interesting to me but after Haruka woke up
things just started to go bad.
After further
reflection most everything in this anime started off badly.
The more adult content was interesting but the
plot just kept ending up in the same place as most predictable
soaps.
There's enough guilt and anger (mostly misplaced) to make a good
sized town suffer.
Just that Takayuki is spending time with Mitsuki and ends up late
for dates with Haruka, (yes it did happen more than just once),
speaks volumes about how He thinks of Haruka as an obligation more
than a girlfriend.
Then for him to feel guilty about her getting the crap squished out of her because he was off fooling around with Mitsuki . . .
Jeeezzzus this guy must think he's god or something that his being on time could have changed anything.
Add to that Haruka's parents telling Takayuki to stay away because,
"they can't stand to see him so depressed", what kind of retard
writes this kind of crap?
If they left her parent's weird reaction out it would have been much better.
I also find myself at odds with a doctor (fictional or otherwise) that advises
parents to lie to their children. Lying to your 8 year-old about
Santa is one thing, lying to your 20 year-old daughter about her coma over the
last 3 years is entirely different. When she does find out that
everyone is lying to her, (like you didn't see that coming?), how do
you think someone with a "fragile psyche" is going to react?
Would you be happy to find out that everyone you trust has been
lying to you?
This is just stupid and everyone suffers for it.
This was the pretty much the final straw as far as "craptastic" plot devices go, I guess I just expected too much.
I could rail on but it would serve no purpose, the problems I found
with this show just turn me off.
I rate it sub 5 alongside stuff like
Canvas2, the writing has it's good points,
Even great points
but the whole plot just looks, smells,
tastes and farts like a soap opera that I could watch any afternoon
on national TV.
At least it isn't quite in the Jerry Springer league of totally
screwed up human debris.
Although I'm pretty sure ol' Dr. Phil might ask the characters,
"What the hell is wrong you?"
