This is an interesting
commentary on war. I always thought the female characters were wonderful from an
aesthetic point of view but the anime that evolved from the game (released in
2002) and the manga (2005) turned out to be much more than fluff.
The show plays like a somber tragic drama about a life that is little more than
strife and suffering, with only brief moments of peace.
I think that it's safe to say that for most people, if you think your life sucks
with more than your fair share of suffering, after watching this little epic,
you might be a bit more thankful for what you have.
This is not for those who have an aversion to violence as there is plenty of it
to go around, the bloodshed escalating with every episode. Granted it is only
illustrated blood and gore, not as bad or gruesome as Elfen Lied, you still
might not want your younger kids watching this. I suspect it'll get a TV-PG or
more likely TV-14 rating when ADV releases it in 2007.
While the production values aren't OVA quality they mix 2-D & 3-D CGI reasonably
well enough so it doesn't look bad and the story keeps you involved quite well.
About the only anime that I have seen that can be considered better in the past
year is "Simoun" and only by a small margin.
This is really great stuff and the story is quite dark, I give it a 9 out of 10.
I'll try to get more stuff for
wallpapers, I imagine that ADV will offer some nice stuff when they get their
website going for their release of this anime, they do a nice job of that now
and then.
The DVDs are being released in the USA as we surf.
